Information for Admitted International Students

Please follow the following steps to secure your visa, housing, academic placement, and enrollment:

  1. Parents must sign the Enrollment Contract and return it immediately to the Admission Office. By signing the contract you are stating you and your family have read and understand the terms including placement, tuition & fees, ESL support, transportation, and housing. Email a signed contract to vkoelsch@mvcds.org. Please bring the original signed contract to the Admission Office when you arrive at Maumee Valley.
  2. The Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status (SEVIS Form I-20) is enclosed. Also included is a letter of recommendation from Gary Boehm, Head of School for you to take to the American Consul.
  3. Payment of all tuition and fees is required after you receive your SEVIS/I-20 visa and before you arrive at Maumee Valley. Tuition may be paid by wire, credit card, bank check, or cash. Monthly charges will be billed to your family for transportation, books, and miscellaneous expenses including Winterim.
  4. Students must make their own travel plans. Please fly into Toledo Express Airport if you would like a Maumee Valley representative (or your host family) to pick you up. Students flying to Detroit Wayne Metropolitan Airport or other airports will need to hire a shuttle service to bring them to Toledo. Notify the Admission Office of your flight itinerary once it has been confirmed.
  5. For students staying with host families, the Admission Office will notify you of the name and contact information of your host family. When you receive this information we recommend you send the family an email to introduce yourself. They will be looking forward to hearing from you. If you live with a host family you must return to your home country for the duration of the summer break and return to Toledo no sooner than the weekend before the first day of school in August.
  6. Students and parents must work together with the family doctor to complete the following medical forms:
  7. For students interested in interscholastic athletics you must have your family doctor complete the Ohio High School Athletic Association Participation Physical Evaluation Form. This will allow you to play on an organized Maumee Valley athletic team. Click here for this form.
  8. All Maumee Valley international students must have health and accident insurance before leaving their home country. We recommend ISM Health Insurance. The average cost is $1000/year plus co-payments. You must show proof of insurance coverage upon arrival.
  9. The climate in Toledo is pleasant in spring, summer, and fall and often quite cold in the winter (December-February). At this time of year the average temperature is 20-30 degrees F (0 to -5 degrees C) making heavy clothing and footwear important. The dress code at Maumee Valley is guided by the rules of common sense. Jeans and tennis shoes are acceptable. Please click here to refer to the Student & Parent Handbook for details.
  10. Maumee Valley is a rigorous college preparatory school. Students are expected to attend all classes daily and to approach their studies seriously. Students must maintain an attitude of respect toward teachers and classmates. Courses and graduation requirements are available at by clicking here. Students are placed in classes based on previous academic performance, testing results, and student interest.
