A "Sister School" partnership between Maumee Valley Country Day School and Yanshan University Attachment School was formalized on Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The formal signing was part of a two-day visit by a delegation from Yanshan University in Qinhuangdao, China. The visitors observed classes, interacted with MVCDS students, and attended partnership planning meetings.

The visit was the second by the Yanshan University delegation, as a small group visited last spring during the initial partnership planning phase. Zequan Liu, director of the division of international cooperation at Yanshan University, said Yanshan University Attachment School (YUAS) is excited about being Maumee Valley’s sister school, and hopes to gain insights for both administrative and academic excellence. “The one thing about Maumee Valley that impressed YUAS the most,” he said, “is Maumee Valley's focus on nurturing students to become compassionate, educated and responsible citizens.” Maumee Valley’s partnership with YUAS is the latest in innovative planning aimed at helping MVCDS students learn to interact and cooperate with people from different backgrounds and cultures. The school is also excited to offer a Chinese Language and Culture course in the Upper School this fall, and will also host its first exchange student from Beijing through the ASSIST program. In all, Maumee Valley proudly welcomes more than 10 international students for the 2007-2008 academic year.
