The curriculum in the Preschool is woven into the daily schedule. Language arts, science, math and social studies are incorporated into weekly lessons and learning center activities which are based on themes that are of interest to young children. General themes and/or specific lessons are also generated from the ideas and suggestions the children might initiate or request. Teachers are particularly alert to these ideas and suggestions since they represent areas of peak interest and therefore provide opportunities for optimum learning. Curiosity and interest are key motivators for this age group.
Classrooms are set up with a variety of learning centers including listening, computers, writing, math, science, language arts, blocks, dramatic play and manipulatives of all kinds. These centers contain materials which reinforce fundamental language, number, and motor skills while encouraging creativity, critical thinking, independent learning, and the development of sound work habits.
The Preschool curriculum has been designed with developmentally appropriate activities which meet the individual needs of the children and is aligned to the early learning content standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
