  • Maumee Valley Country Day School, established in Toledo, Ohio, in 1884, is the only independent school in northwest Ohio.
  • As an independent school, it is financially self-supporting and is governed by a Board of Trustees.
  • There are 480 students ranging from preschool (age 3) through Grade 12.
  • Its low student to teacher ratio is an average of 10:1.
  • The outstanding faculty consists of 53 teachers with a true commitment to independent school education and interactive, individualized learning. Sixty eight percent hold master's degrees and two have earned a Ph.D.
  • MVCDS has a commitment to cultural and religious diversity, and the student body represents 28 different cultures.
  • The 70-acre campus allows for outdoor and indoor hands-on classrooms.
  • All Upper School students participate in Winterim, the school's signature program. Held annually each November, students choose from an array of on-campus courses, language and culture-oriented travel, independent study, or internships throughout the country. Trip locations in November 2006 included Turkey and Spain, and on-campus course topics ranged from furniture painting to the science of war.
  • One hundred percent of MVCDS graduates attend college, and students matriculate at a wide range of schools. Choices for the Class of 2007 included Clark University, Howard University, Lafayette College, Pomona College, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Tufts University. Ninety percent of graduates are accepted to at least one of their "Top Choice" schools.  
  • MVCDS leads all of northwest Ohio in the percentage of students qualifying for National Merit recognition. In the last three years, 21 percent of seniors received National Merit recognition (finalist, semifinalist or commended)—the highest percentage in northwest Ohio.
  • Last year, 50 students took 75 Advanced Placement exams with 44 scoring a 3 or higher and 36 scoring at least a 4.
  • The average ACT score for the MVCDS Class of 2007 was 27 (on a 36 scale). The average Ohio score was 21.5 and the average score nationwide was 21.2.
  • The average SAT score for the MVCDS Class of 2007 was 1239 (on a 1600 scale). The average Ohio score was 1079 and the average score nationwide was 1021.
  • The Class of 2009's PLAN (pre-ACT) test score was 22 out of 32; the national average was 17.5. 
  • Extracurricular opportunities include 18 clubs and a competitive athletic program. Sports include: baseball, field hockey, tennis, golf, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and track and field. The no-cut policy gives every student a chance to play a sport.
