Global Health Care:  Systems and Solutions

The spread of viruses like H1N1 reveals both the strengths and weaknesses of our public health infrastructure just when our national health care system comes to the forefront of American dialogue. As we consider how best to fix health care, and to improve public health around the world, there are many questions to consider:

  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of American health care? How do they compare to other health care systems around the world?
  • What countries have the most effective health care systems?
  • How do we measure the quality of a health care system? Of a public health system?
  • What is being done to meet global public health challenges? What more remains to be done?
  • How can individuals help us rise to these national and global challenges?

The 2009-10 GEP Speaker Series, Community Book Club, and curricular initiatives work to answer these questions for our students, faculty, parents, friends, and others in the Toledo community. Our particular aim this year is both to inform and empower those who take part in our programs.
