Seventh Graders Win with Their Crystals

MVCDS had two 7th grade teams progress to the national level of the United States Crystal Growing Competition. Both teams got 9th place out of 83 entries from 26 states. Seventh graders Wesley, Alex, Neena, and Elena are the winners of the MVCDS Crystal growing competition. Their team grew an Alum crystal with the highest clarity and a perfect octahedral morphology out of all the MVCDS Middle School crystals. Their crystal has now progressed on to the United States Crystal Growing Competition held at the State University of New York's University at Buffalo.

Nate, Wisam, Aaron, and Bjorn grew a large 19 gram Alum crystal with an octahedral morphology and won the 7th grade MVCDS Middle School Largest Crystal Competition. Their team crystal has also been sent to the US Crystal Growing Competition at the State University of New York's University at Buffalo.
The best crystals will become part of a permanent display at the Department of Chemistry at the University at Buffalo.
