THE MISSION
Maumee Valley enables students to become enlightened, compassionate and contributing citizens of our global community, while preparing graduates for their best opportunities in higher education.

ACCREDITATIONS
Maumee Valley is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States and by the Ohio Department of Education.

THE SCHOOL
Nearly 125 years after its founding, Maumee Valley Country Day School remains the preeminent educational institution in Northwest Ohio. It is the only accredited, co-educational, non-sectarian, independent school in the area and attracts boys and girls from throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan from preschool through 12th grade. The school enrolls 480 students, including 180 in the Upper School and 38 in the Class of 2008.  Of that total, 31 percent are minority students comprising 28 different cultures. Approximately 36 percent of students receive financial aid or scholarship totaling $1 million. One hundred percent of students are bound for four-year colleges.

THE FACULTY
More than 70 percent of Maumee Valley hold advanced degrees.

WINTERIM
The school’s signature program enhances Upper School students’ learning with an intensive, focuses experience annually in November. Students choose from an array of on-campus courses, language and culture-oriented travel, independent study, or internships throughout the world. The program adds experiential learning to the traditional college preparatory program and promotes independence, motivation and other important lifelong skills. Students receive credit for Winterim and their grades are included in the cumulative average.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Selected 11th and 12th grade students engage in college-level coursework through Advanced Placement. AP courses include English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, United States History, Statistics, Calculus, Biology, and Environmental Science. Last year, 62 students took 106 AP exams with 75 percent scoring a 3 or above and 52 percent scoring at least a 4. Courses are marked AP on the transcript, and students are required to take the AP exam. Due to the rigorous nature of the Maumee Valley curriculum, students are discouraged from taking more than 3 AP/Honors courses in 11th and 12th grades.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Service to others is an integral part of the curriculum from Preschool through the Upper School. Projects include tutoring, cross-age programs between school divisions, and outreach projects in places like the Toledo Metroparks and area nursing homes. Students must have at least 30 hours of community service in order to graduate.

EXTRACURRICULARS
Opportunities include 18 clubs and a competitive athletic program. Sports include: baseball, field hockey, tennis, golf, lacrosse, basketball, soccer and track and field. The no-cut policy gives every student a chance to play a sport.

STANDARDIZED TESTING RESULTS
SAT scores for the classes of 2006-2007 were 330 points above the national average and 70 points above the scores of other independent schools. Maumee Valley 10th graders excelled on the PLAN (pre-ACT) test with an average score of 22, far surpassing national average of 17.5

COLLEGE ADVISING
Maumee Valley's college advising program is extremely comprehensive and personal. Mr. Jaffee meets with students individually at least five times from 10th-12th grade, and parents are included in a few of those meetings as well. Students get help building a college list, researching colleges, visiting colleges, drafting and revising college essays, completing applications, requesting recommendations, and applying for scholarships. Mr. Jaffee works with parents on learning about college admissions, applying for financial aid, scheduling standardized tests and preparation, and a range of other college-related topics. In the role of advocate, three original references are written by teachers and the college advisor, and phone calls are made to admissions offices on behalf of each student.

WHERE OUR GRADS GO
In the past two years, 81 MVCDS graduates have attended 53 different four year colleges throughout the country. Students matriculate at a range of schools: large, public universities like University of Michigan, Ohio State University, and Indiana University; small, private colleges like Williams College, Kenyon College, and Claremont McKenna College; and everything in between. Many students attend very selective colleges like Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, and so on, and some students choose to apply to and attend colleges that have a certain program, major, athletic team, or location that appeals to them in particular.
