Amy Yustick
Trustee since 2013
Amy and husband Robert are the parents of current MVCDS students, Bryce, Paige, and Blake. She currently serves as CFO for Champion Laboratories, a leading automotive filtration supplier and has more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry. Before joining Champion, she held various roles in finance, IT, and strategy at Ford Motor Company, Bosch, Timken, and Dana. She received her BA in Economics and Art History from the University of Michigan and her MBA in Finance from the Katz Graduate School of Business. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends at her lake house in Michigan.
Diana Block ’91
Vice President
Trustee since 2016
Diana Block is executive vice president of Block Communications Inc. Before moving to Toledo to join the parent company last summer, Diana worked at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as president and co-publisher. In 2012 she began teaching business communications at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business. Diana has a BA in English from Yale University, an MA in English from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Amanda Bryant-Friedrich
Trustee since 2015
Amanda is the mother of two MVCDS students, Klaus '20 and Cornelia '29. She is the Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Toledo/Medical Center. She is also the Director of International Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Student Recruitment and Retention. Amanda was a Winterim Independent Study advisor this year and was a member of the search committee for the Head of Middle School position.

Andy Weiner
Trustee since 2017
A current parent of three Maumee Valley students, Andy is an Associate Vice President with Morgan Stanley. Before moving to Toledo in 2008, he spent 32 years in New England where he met his wife, Sarah, originally from Toledo. He graduated from St. Andrews School, Barrington, RI, and from Unity College in Maine. He subsequently provided consulting services to the commercial banking and lending industry before discovering his passion for working with individual people and families. Andy also serves as Chairman of the Board at Sunset Retirement Communities, a local non-profit, and is the Chair of the Investment Committee.
Vallie Bowman English

Vallie Bowman-English received her Law Degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Law in 1995. She is married to Common Pleas Court Judge Ian English, and they have one son.
Vallie is a past president and current member of the Ohio Association of Municipal / County Court Clerks. Vallie was elected Clerk of the Toledo Municipal Court in November of 2003. As Clerk, she has used technology to make the office more efficient and better serve the public. She is also the Chair of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Vallie became the first minority President of the Toledo Bar Association in its 138-year history. She is the past Chair of the Susan G. Komen of NW Ohio Grants Peer Review Panel and a current member of the board. She is the Chair of the Lucas County Democratic Party’s Central Committee and has been appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court‘s Judicial Family Network Advisory Board.
Laurie Julius Avery '88

Laurie Avery is a 1988 graduate of MVCDS. She and her husband Rick are alumni parents of three MVCDS students. She is a partner in the Toledo Office of Reminger Co., LPA where she focuses her law practice on the defense employers in litigation-related matters and professions in the defense of malpractice claims. Laurie earned her JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and her BA from the University of Rochester.

Rita Jaessing Brauneck '68

Rita graduated from MVCDS in 1968, attended Skidmore, then graduated, cum laude, from Lake Erie College. She started and, for five years, operated an early childhood/daycare learning center. After earning an MBA from the University of Michigan, she served in various operational leadership roles with Avery Dennison for 17 years. Since then, Rita has led a career transition firm, was certified as an executive coach while a practice leader with Lee Hecht Harrison, then launched her leadership and career consultancy in 2007. She is actively coaching executives and corporate board members across the US.

Rita lives in Cleveland where she is a member of the Board of Directors of NSL Analytical Services, Inc. and a Board Member of In Counsel with Women, an organization of senior women leaders. She also advises early-stage companies.
Alan Bannister
Trustee since 2019
Alan is the parent of Cranston Bannister '26. He is the Commissioner of Community Engagement for the City of Toledo. Alan earned a B.A. in Public Administration from Kentucky State University. He is a lifelong Toledoan and serves on the Toledo Fair Housing Board, the United Way of Greater Toledo African American Leadership Council, and is the President of his Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. graduate Chapter of Toledo.

His wife Patekka is the Commissioner of Plant Operations for the City of Toledo.

Matt Buchanan

Trustee since 2011
A current parent of two Maumee Valley students, Matt is a registered patent attorney and founding partner at Buchanan Van Tuinen LLC, a global intellectual property law firm headquartered in Toledo. Matt earned a B.S. in Microbiology from The Ohio State University and a Masters in Microbiology and Immunology from the Medical College of Ohio. He earned his J.D. from the University of Toledo.

Areka Foster, PC, ATR
Trustee since 2013
A current parent at Maumee Valley, Areka is a licensed clinical counselor and registered art therapist at The Victory Center, Polly Fox Academy and in the private practice. She is the co-founder of Growing 2 Give Garden, a non-profit that grows and donates fresh produce to area food banks and soup kitchens. She holds two Masters degrees, one in Guidance and Counseling (BGSU), and the other in Art Therapy and Counseling (Ursuline College).

Chris Kiehl

Christopher is the father of two MVCDS students, Zachary ‘24 and Oliver ‘25. Before moving to Toledo in 2015, he practiced law in Pittsburgh, PA and worked as a policy analyst at the George Washington University. He currently sits on the boards of the Neighborhood Health Association and the Literati of the Toledo Library. Christopher holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Science in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Joss Kiely '01

Joss is a visiting instructor in architecture at Louisiana State University School of Architecture where he teaches courses in architectural studio, history, and representation at the undergraduate and graduate level. He has recently completed a dissertation entitled, "Itinerant Architecture: Global Politics and World Building in the work of Minoru Yamasaki and Associates, 1951-86," at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Ann Arbor. In addition, Joss maintains a creative graphics and architectural design collective, Studio Jot, which among other endeavors, designs The Valley twice per fiscal year for Maumee Valley. Joss also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College in French Language and Literature, as well as a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in architectural history and theory from Taubman College.
Hanqiu (Hangean) Luo

Hangean Luo is the father of Conyu (Jeff) Luo '20. Hangean lives in Beijing, China. He has over 20 years of experience in sales and business development. He is now working for Amazon as the general manager of Amazon Brand Registry Asian Pacific, and managing the departments in Beijing and Tokyo. Before working for Amazon, he had worked for Motorola and Dell. Hangean earned his TMBA from the Arizona University, and MBA from Tsinghua University.

Dr. Maneesha Pandey
Trustee since 2015
Mother of Mihir Joshi '20 and Avi Joshi '23, Maneesha is a Deputy Coroner, Forensic Pathologist in the Lucas County Coroner's Office as well as the program director of Forensic Pathology Fellowship program. She is also an assistant professor in Pathology at the Health Sciences department at the University of Toledo. Maneesha is a Vice President of the nonprofit organization Toledo Physicians of Indian Origin (TOPI). She serves actively in various committees and as a board of director for the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME).

Bonnie R. Rankin
Trustee since 2019
Attorney and sole member of Rankin Law Office, LLC, Bonnie practices in the areas of family law, criminal defense, real estate, business issues, and general litigation. Bonnie is an active member of the Toledo community, currently sitting on the Toledo Zoological Society Operations Board, Executive Committee, Programs/Mission Committee, and Development Committee. She has held past seats as the Chair of West Side Montessori Board of Trustee, Chair of the Toledo Bar Association Certified Grievance Committee, and many other prestigious local organizations.

Bonnie and her husband, Gary Whitacre, are residents of Bowling Green, OH. They have two daughters: Sarah Whitacre '22 and Alexandra (Alex) Whitacre '17 who attends Tulane University in New Orleans.
Heather Rohrs
Trustee since 2019
Heather is a current parent of MVCDS student, Caden '21, and an alumni parent of Emily '13. She is the founding president of Masterpiece Financial Services, a national practice specializing in financial and wealth management for individuals and small businesses. Heather is a native of the Toledo area completing her undergraduate degree at Lourdes University and her M.B.A in Finance and Accounting from The University of Toledo. Community involvement through mission-driven activities is important to Heather. She has had the opportunity to serve on several community boards and volunteers for numerous organizations such as the Toledo Area Humane Society, FOCUS, Maumee Valley Country Day School, the Human Rights Campaign, and Camp Lightbulb. She also serves on National Advisory Boards for JW Cole Financial and Asset Mark Investment Services.
Ann Stranahan
Trustee Emerita
Ann, a dedicated member of this community, served as President of the Board in the 1980s. She created and produced the documentary on Maumee Valley for Toledo Stories and wrote the school's 125 Year History. Ann is an author, poet, and humanitarian. She is a past parent, current grandparent, and strong advocate for Maumee Valley.

Georgia Welles
Trustee Emerita
Georgia is a community leader and has provided support for a large variety of non-profit organizations across the country, including Maumee Valley Country Day School. She has worn many hats for the school, including parent, grandparent, trustee, and president of the board. She continues to mentor the administration of the school to ensure the longevity of Maumee Valley for generations to come.
