March 7-8, 2019

Maumee Valley sent six people to the Diversity Summit: Essential Skills for a Changing Climate, in Chicago and presented by Alison Park and Dawan Julien. This conference welcomed all who share a commitment to diversity, equity, and justice in our schools. The Summit provided an opportunity to learn new strategies; understand current research while considering school culture, resources, and challenges; and, possible steps for advancing work in these areas. Participants heard from leading practitioners, learned about specific strategies, connected with other committed educators, celebrated successes, renewed commitments, and returned to school with informed plans for action. Participants shared the energy of these essential and energizing conversations.

A group of MVCDS students went to the Ohio Student Diversity Leadership Conference, "DifferenTogether!" at the Columbus School for Girls. The Columbus School presented the conference for Girls, Columbus Academy, and The Wellington School. The goal of the meeting was to bring students from diverse identities and backgrounds together for learning and fellowship. At the conference, 9-12th graders from independent schools gathered to discuss things such as Age, Ability, Religion, Race, and Gender. The conference was a valuable experience for the students and spurred new ideas on how to apply what they learned, to life on the MVCDS campus and in life in general.
