Travel at Maumee Valley is what sets us apart from other schools in experiential learning. We believe students who explore their world make for better hands-on learners and informed global citizens. As such, each year in the Middle School culminates with week-long class trips right before spring break. Students are grouped in small numbers to allow bonding experiences and easy management. Each group is chaperoned by teachers. Transportation and lodging is arranged and provided for by the school.
Each grade level ventures on a travel experience: seventh graders to Chicago; eighth graders to Washington D.C. Traveling in groups of about 10, students visit important landmarks pertaining to American history. By the end of the trip, students gain a new-found sense of patriotism, camaraderie, and independence. Team teaching allows for interdisciplinary connections to occur, making the learning intentional and connected for students.
The culminating intensive fair allows students to share their reflections on their learning experience to the school and local community.
