  • American Girl Adventures - Grades 1-4

    Enjoy real girl adventures with some of your favorite American Girls. We will experience life as they enjoyed it using games, crafts, and snacks. Girls this year: Josephina, Rebecca, Kit, Maryellen, and Blaire (the Girls of 2019). Feel free to bring your dolls to camp.

    Instructor
    : Elaine Sneider has over 40 years of experience teaching children. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching theatre and enrichment classes since 1992. She is the owner of Adventures in Education, is the Drama Director at St. Joan of Arc & OLPH, is a Piano and Vocal Instructor, teaches enrichment classes and camps for St. Rose, OLPH, Bedford Community and directs a year-round theatre program for K-8 in Maumee, Ohio. A published playwright, she has written 35 children's musicals and has directed over 125 shows.
  • Arabic Culture and Activity Class - Grades 1-4

    Students will learn Alphabet letters, culture, introduce yourself in fun, games, and cooperative ways.

    Fee: $149
    Materials: bring 1 notebook, 1 pen/pencil, a smart board.
    Instructors: Rula Sbieh taught Arabic in five different schools for nine years for full-time, and weekend schools from preschool to sixth grade.
  • Arduino Camp - Grades 5-8

    The "Arduino Blink Challenge" lesson explores how computer and software engineers work to solve the challenge of a society, such as providing systems for turning lights on and off automatically. Students work in teams to setup and program an Arduino board to turn on and off at a 5 second on and 2 seconds off interval. Teams build their system, program and test it, reflect on the challenge, and present their experiences to their class.

  • Backyard Games - Grades 1-4

    Remember a time when all the neighborhood kids would gather for hours playing games outside? Backyard games will allow campers an opportunity to play all the classics like wiffle ball, touch football, kick ball, and capture the flag, plus they’ll learn a few new ones.

    Materials: Please wear athletic attire.
    Instructor: Chris Fischl has taught Lower School math and science at Maumee Valley Country Day School for over 15 years.
  • Baseball 101 - Grades 1-4

    Students will learn the baseball fundamentals of fielding and throwing.

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Devon Garcia is a Division 1 college baseball player that has played center field for the past three years. He has played for Summer teams such as Utica Blue Socks, Eau ClaireExpress, Southern Ohio Copperheads and Midland Redskins. Devon has played on elite summer teams throughout the U.S. Devon has also played in the MAC Conference Championship in 2017 and WON. He has also appeared in the 1st round of the regional NCAA College World Series. Start your baseball dreams with this amazing camp. See you at THE BALL PARK!!!!!
  • Lego Engineers Design - Grades 1-6

    In this class, we will stretch our minds to create original designs using only legos. This class will challenge you to create a bridge that can hold weight, and design a car that will be in a race and many other challenges. Each day we will complete different challenges to test your engineering skills and work collaboratively with other students to complete tasks. There will be many new exciting challenges this year! Every design will be captured with a picture and students will have the opportunity to take home a portfolio featuring all their designs.

    Instructor: Shauna Hunter is a retired college cheerleader, who loves to dance, cheer, and yell! She has coached a varsity cheerleading squad for two years. In her spare time, she loves to craft and paint. Since having a son, she has sharpened her Lego skills and has become an excellent builder. She has been teaching elementary school for eight years, and this is her third year teaching summer school at Maumee Valley Country Day School. She is very excited about the summer classes this year!

  • Making Art w/ Non-Traditional Items - Grades 7-12

    Students will make predominantly 3D pieces w/found objects and other materials that aren't traditional materials.
     
    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Steve Athanas has a BA in Art Education from the University of Toledo. He has spent four-plus decades performing in a various rock band in the area. He is now focused on the Visual Arts and has shown his work in galleries.
  • Maumee Valley Boys and Girls Basketball Camp - Grades 1-8

    Basketball camp will be conducted by Maumee Valley High School Coaches, players, and alumni. Players will be divided into groups based on age and skill to work on individual skill development, team skills, and game play. Our energetic staff will work with each player to help them advance in their skills.
     
    Fee: $129
    Materials: Players need to bring a water bottle, wear shorts, and athletic shoes.
    Instructor: Rob Conover is the Athletic Director and varsity boys' basketball head coach at Maumee Valley Country Day School.
     
  • Mind Your Manners - Grades 2-4

    This class will teach the basics of etiquette with hands-on, participatory activities and role-playing games. Students will learn practical skills as well as how to apply the basic concepts of good manners in different situations. Miss Condessa says that you'll have so much fun Minding Your Manners that you won't mind at all learning about:
    • The Basics - why good manners are needed to be happy in life
    • What's Appropriate in different settings and situations
    • Making Introductions - being a good host or guest and making the people around you comfortable
    • The Telephone - how to make and answer calls and take messages
    • Table Manners - how to set the table, eat different kinds of food and make conversation in a mannerly way at mealtimes.

    Instructor: Condessa Croninger has enjoyed many years of offering SummerTime courses and serving as an Intensives guest lecturer for Maumee Valley. She is proud (and grateful) to come from a long line of perfect ladies and gentlemen who were determined to teach their children beautiful manners. As a result of this, she manages to be (nearly) always perfectly proper, while still being (mostly) fun to be around.

  • Playing with words - Exploring and Crafting Poetry - Grades 5-8

    in this class we will read and write and learn about poetic devices, and experiment with different poetic forms. if you love words, this is the class for you!

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Jana Smith has a master in literacy and has been teaching 5th and 6th grade language Arts at Maumee Valley for over 20 years.
  • Portraiture, Danny Checkers Style!!! Grades 8-12

    This course is a crash course in self-expression via the SELF-PORTRAIT, will introduce the student to the history of portraiture, the intentions and ambitions of portraiture, the anatomy of the human skull/face/bust, color theory (ish) and most importantly, you will learn some of the secrets of noted Portrait Artist, Daniel (Danny) Mauk. 

    Fee: $179
    Instructor: Daniel Mauk is a Bowling Green-based portrait artist. He is the owner of Portraits In Color.
  • SAT/ACT Prep - Grades 9-12

    Students will be introduced to the verbal, writing, and math sections of the SAT and ACT. Among the topics covered will be the structure of the tests, the differences between the two exams, the types of questions on the tests, content needed to answer the questions, and general test strategies as well as approaches to specific types of questions. Students will work through plenty of practice questions, and the cost of two practice books is included in the course fee. Students will divide each morning between math and verbal preparation.

    Instructors: Sue Bissonette taught mathematics at Maumee Valley for more than 20 years and earned a reputation as an instructor who knew how to explain challenging concepts to all students. She continues to tutor many students at her favorite coffeehouse.
     
    Tom Cambisios has taught English and history at Maumee Valley for over 20 years, with an emphasis on writing and grammar skills. He prefers smoothies to coffee.
  • Soccer - Grades 1-8

    Boys and girls, experienced, and novice players are all welcome. Training and competitive groups will be based on age, size, and experience.
     
    During the week, drills, videos, scrimmages, and games will enable each player to improve ball handling skills in the area of kicking, heading, trapping, passing, and dribbling. All participating campers will receive a soccer ball and a game shirt.

    Instructor: Joel Paul has been the boys JV soccer coach at Central Catholic High School since 2006. He was also the Middle School soccer coach at Maumee Valley Country Day School from 2003 - 2005. He played international soccer for Trinidad and Tobago at the U 14, U 16, U 17, and U 19 levels. He also played college soccer on a scholarship for four years at Dallas Baptist University. During the school year, he has been a special education teacher in Toledo Public Schools since 2002.
  • Squishy Circuit Kidz Labs - Grades 1-4

    Let's have some squishy fun! Create simple electrical, robotic machines with play-dough, batteries, and simple electrical circuits.

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Claudette Garcia is a Maumee Valley Extended Time Care teacher and a mother of four boys who has lived so many of these experiences with her own children. She believes in educational programs that provide learning mixed with fun and practical insights for kids.
  • Tennis - Grades 1-8

    Shadow Valley Tennis Club Pros are proud to offer a tennis program for Beginners, Intermediates & Advanced players.

    Beginner students will learn basic skills including ground strokes, volleys, serves and overheads & work on their court positioning. They will also work on basic hand-eye coordination which will advance their play.

    Intermediate & Advanced players will not only work on their acquired skills but also concentrate on tennis strategy for singles and doubles play. The strategy will allow them to take their game to the next level.

    Each group will also play out points, games and compete in mini tournaments.

    Fee: $149
    Materials: Please bring a tennis racquet and a water bottle.
    Instructors:  Classes will be taught by experienced Shadow Valley Pros.

  • Basic Music Theory - Grades 1-6

    This basic music theory class is for anyone who has a desire to learn how to read music, or those who want to refine their knowledge and skills to better their ability to play their instrument. In the class students will learn basic theory, including how to identify notes on a musical staff in different clefs, notes values, rhythms, time signatures.

    Angel Thompson has a bachelors degree in violin music performance from Belmont University, one of the leading music programs in the U.S.
  • Fantasy & Strategy Based Games - Grades 5-8

    Looking to play some fun and challenging adventure-based games with like-minded individuals? Fantasy & Strategy Based Games will allow participants to learn and play several different strategy board games, the customizable card game: Magic the Gathering and the fantasy role playing game: Dungeons and Dragons. Group members may bring in their own favorite fantasy or strategy based game to teach to the group.

  • Glee Club Sings and Dances to Kids Broadway Tunes - Grades 1-4

    Enjoy singing and dancing to Kids Broadway Tunes as we prepare for our performance. Included with the Camp is a CD with practice music, lyric packet. A snack will be served each day.

  • How Well do You Know Your Google Tools? Grades 5-6

    This class is designed to give entering 5th and 6th grade students an edge in the tech skills they will use in the UI. Learn tips and tricks with Google Docs, Slides, and have fun doing it!

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Jana Smith has a Master in Literacy Instruction, and has been teaching 5th and 6th grade Language Arts for over 20 years.
  • Kids' Yoga - Grades 5-8

    Children are natural yogis: curious, flexible, intuitive, and always “in the moment”. Through movement, children can explore the creative aspects and experience the meditative qualities of this ancient practice. Students will be taught fun poses that are inspiring, invigorating and calming. They will also be led through guided meditations that promote relaxation, body and breath awareness, and stimulate the imagination. Children’s literature, music, and opportunities for artistic expression will be woven into the class format.

    Fee: $149
    Materials: Please bring a yoga mat, blanket, snack, and water bottle.
    Instructor: Jenn McCullough was an elementary special education teacher when she started practicing yoga over 15 years ago and found that the benefits helped reduce her physical and mental tension not only in class but also in her daily life. Ultimately, her love for teaching and yoga converged, and she began teaching yoga full time. Jenn received her yoga teacher certification at Bhumi's Yoga and Wellness Center which is recognized by the Yoga Alliance, an organization that sets standards for teacher certification programs. She strives to create an experience for her students that allows them to make their yoga practice relevant in their daily lives. Jenn teaches Hatha Yoga to a wide range of practitioners; believing that yoga is for “every body”. Jenn’s classes incorporate flowing vinyasas in addition to themed instruction around physical alignment principles as well as the teachings from the Yoga Sutras and Life. She gears her classes toward students' needs and interests. As a former special education teacher, Jenn has met the growing interest in bringing yoga and meditation practices to area schools, including MVCDS, Ottawa Hills, Grove Patterson Elementary, Polly Fox Academy, and Devilbiss High School.
  • Lego STEAM - Grades 1-2

    We will use and build with Legos to perform fun experiments, such as balloon powered Lego car races, fun science Lego games, and much more!

    Materials: Please bring a 10" by 10" Lego base plate

  • STEM - Grades 1-6

    In this class, you will use a variety of unexpected materials to complete a variety of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenges to test your creativity, thinking, and engineering skills. On some challenges, you will work with team members and other times you will work independently. You will have the opportunity to “play” with electricity, make your own oven to bake s'mores, and build catapults. This class will push your brain to the limits.

  • Step Leadership - Grades 5-8

     Individuals will build character, leadership, team & communication skills while creating a Step performance together. Theatrically they will practice stage presence, focuses, and breaking stage freight. May incorporate a talent portion which will allow the youth to showcase their talent.
     
    Fee: $149
    Materials: Please bring comfortable clothes, shoes, water, towels. Prepare to sweat.
    Instructor: Pasha Carter loves to have fun! She thrives on being a mentor to youth of all ages including preschoolers! She is extremely passionate and assertive with theatre and Step coaching. Being thyself allows others to be themselves, which is what she encourages, also! She is an artist of many gifts!
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel up to one week prior to the first day of a class or camp and will receive a full refund minus the 25% non-refundable deposit. Cancellation within one week before the first day of a class or camp may result in no refund due to teachers' preparations based on expected enrollment. All classes and camps are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment. If this should occur, you will be notified and a full refund given.

Before & After Camp Care Available

Adults with experience in before and after school care programs care for and supervise the children. The program offers creative and fun activities, such as games, arts, and crafts.

Morning Before Camp Care 7:30am - 9:00am
Afternoon After Camp Care 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Fees listed below are for one week of camp (Mon-Fri) at the class times specified.

Full-day (Grades 1-8)

$259: Includes Before Camp Care, choice of Morning Class, Lunch Supervision, choice of Afternoon Class, and After Camp Care.

Half-day Options (Grades 1-8)
$149:
Morning Class (includes Before Camp Care)

Afternoon Class (includes After Camp Care)

Hobbit Camp: 
Ages 2 and a half (by Sept.) through 3 years old; and ages 4 to 5 years.

Full-day
$239: Includes Before Camp Care, Morning Hobbit Camp, Lunch Supervision, Afternoon Hobbit Camp, and After Camp Care.

Half-day Options
$139: Morning session (includes Before Camp Care)
or
$120: Afternoon session (includes After Camp Care)

Lunch Supervision: Preschool - Grade 8 (12:00-12:30pm)
$50: The lunch supervision includes time to eat lunch brought from home with a beverage (refrigeration is provided) and time for socializing and free time on the playground. Lunch Supervision is included in the Full-Day Fee, so there is no Lunch Supervision fee for students staying for a full day.

High School Classes (Grades 9-12)
Classes are individually priced.

Registration Fees
All registration fees are due in full before the first day of class or your spot is not guaranteed. This includes your application and the total cost of each program. No classes will be prorated.

Payment is accepted by check, MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Discover, or a money order made payable to Maumee Valley Country Day School. Cash will also be accepted in the Lower School office.

Confirmation
A confirmation notice is sent upon receipt of a completed application and payment. Your confirmation will contain information regarding check-in procedures.
