  • Creative Treats - Grades 5-8

    In this camp, we’ll enjoy making and eating a variety of treats. Each participant will put together a recipe box file, learn to convert measurements and how to change a recipe using wheat/white flour to a gluten-free recipe. Enjoy eating your treats and bring some of them home.

    Instructor: Elaine Sneider has over 40 years of experience teaching children. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching theatre and enrichment classes since 1992. She is the owner of Adventures in Education, is the Drama Director at St. Joan of Arc & OLPH, is a Piano and Vocal Instructor, teaches enrichment classes and camps for St. Rose, OLPH, Bedford Community, and directs a year-round theatre program for K-8 in Maumee, Ohio. A published playwright, she has written 35 children's musicals and has directed over 125 shows.
  • Fly, Float, and Hover- Grades 3-5

    Explore different art projects each day as you catch the wind in colorful windsocks, kites, gliders, paper airplanes and balloons built with fabric, plastic, wood, and paper.

    Instructor: Condessa Croninger has enjoyed many years of offering SummerTime courses and serving as an Intensives guest lecturer for Maumee Valley. She works throughout the community as a storyteller and consulting arts education specialist in both the visual and performing arts for audiences from early childhood to adult.
  • Games for Team Building and Cooperation - Grades 1-4

    If you’re looking for a fun way to learn some new games, and learn about how to problem solve and work as a team, then this is for you. We will play a variety of games including board games, strategy games, team building exercises, and more. While we play, we will also learn skills such as effective communication, problem-solving, perseverance, and cooperation. You do not have to know the games beforehand, part of the fun is learning new things. If you’ve done this camp before, look forward to new and different games this year!

    Instructor: Rachel Spiegel is an avid board game player and had been involved with camps on and off since she was a teenager. She has been the School Counselor at MVCDS for five years, and is excited to come back for another year of SummerTime. When not at MV in the summer, you can find her playing with her own four kids in her backyard.
  • Gym Chasers Basketball Camp - Grades 1-8 (ages 5-14)

    This camp will teach the fundamentals of the game, shooting, dribbling, defense, passing, footwork and most of all how to compete and be a team player.

    Fee: $129
    Instructors: Zeke Hill & Dontavyion Fleming have combined over 15 years of experience. They have from Junior High, High school, College and Professional players they have coach. College players they have worked with represent schools such as Michigan University, Michigan State, Iowa University, Iowa State, Arizona State, The Ohio State University, Butler University and many more.

  • Making Art w/ Non-Traditional Items - -Grades 7-12

    Students will make predominantly 3D pieces with found objects and other materials that aren't traditional materials.

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Steve Athanas has a BA in Art Education from the University of Toledo. He has spent four-plus decades performing in various rock bands in the area. He is now focused on the Visual Arts and has shown his work in galleries.
  • Princess Camp - Grades K-3

    Do you want to be a princess? In this fun camp we will enjoy games, crafts, "royal snacks," dressing up, and other Princess fun as we enjoy stories about our favorite princesses.

  • Share Stories (Playmaking) - Grades 1-4

    The students will experience telling stories for an audience. Through theatre games, pantomime, and in-class performances, students will explore the foundations of theatre. They will use words, action, and imagination to present a story on stage. In the process, they will gain confidence and learn to work together. The focus will be on the process, over product; Instead of telling one large story over the week, we will tell a variety of stories in class for a diverse experience.

    Instructor: Brian Bozanich comes to MVCDS from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood, CA where he was the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator. He has an MFA in Youth and Family Theatre from the University of Hawaii, Manoa and a BA in Drama from California State University, Sacramento. He also spent time as an Imagineer at the Walt Disney Company. Over the past 15 years, he led students to two invitations to the American High School Theatre Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has received numerous awards including Artistic Merit Award from the California Educational Theatre Association. Brian brings Maumee Valley over 23 years of teaching experience from elementary through college.
  • Squishy Circuit Kidz Labs - Grade 1-4

    Let's have some squishy fun! Create simple electrical, robotic machines with play-dough, batteries, and simple electrical circuits.

    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Claudette Garcia is a Maumee Valley Extended Time Care teacher and mother of four boys, who has lived many of these experiences with her own children. She believes in educational programs that provide learning, mixed with fun and practical insights for kids.
  • Study Skills - Grades 5-8

    Want to be a school superstar? You can be! All you need to do is practice some beneficial, life-changing study skills! No lie! Learn to take good notes, how to read a textbook, so you don't have to guess what's important, be prepared for tests without cramming, and acquire some cool and easy tricks for memorizing facts.
     
    Over the years, students from this class have made the following observations about Study Skills:--Students liked the cooperative games, and several said they now realize how important being a team-player is in learning.--Many students said learning how to study a text made note-taking and learning more efficient.--Several students reported that learning several different techniques for memorizing would come in handy.--Many students said that practicing ways of organizing notes, materials, and ideas opened their eyes to new possibilities.

    Instructor: Pam Summons co-authored a text on the Greek and Latin roots of the English language, and is a former Maumee Valley teacher with many years of experience.
  • Tennis - Grades 1-8

    Shadow Valley Tennis Club Pros are proud to offer a tennis program for Beginners, Intermediates & Advanced players.
     
    Beginner students will learn basic skills including ground strokes, volleys, serves and overheads & work on their court positioning. They will also work on basic hand-eye coordination which will advance their play.

    Intermediate & Advanced players will not only work on their acquired skills but also concentrate on tennis strategy for singles and doubles play. The strategy will allow them to take their game to the next level.

    Each group will also play out points, games and compete in mini tournaments.

    Fee: $149
    Materials: Please bring a tennis racquet and a water bottle.
    Instructor: Classes will be taught by experienced Shadow Valley Pros.
  • Ukelele Camp - Grades 5-8

    This class is designed for students who are just beginning their study of this instrument. Tuning, strumming patterns and chord progressions will be taught using a variety of popular songs. Students will perform a concert for their families at the end of the week.

    Fee: $149

    Instructor: Kim Buehler has been teaching in the Toledo area for over 25 years. She was part of the voice faculty at the University of Toledo and teaches voice at Toledo School for the Arts. Kim also maintains a studio of private voice students at her Sylvania home. You can hear her on various radio/TV commercials such as I Love My Zoo, Magic Wok, Toledo Just Look At Us Now, and many more. This is her eighth summer with MVCDS SummerTime camps!
  • Young Artists - Grades 1-4

    Join the fun for a class full of art and creative activities. Draw on location, look at the work of famous artists, and assemble natural materials into art projects. Explore printmaking using the block method and mono-printing, paint with watercolor and acrylics on a variety of surfaces, and create a clay piece. Inspiration will come from stories, nature, and your own imagination. Creative exercises will help achieve exciting and successful results. We will keep a sketchbook throughout the week.

    Instructor:  LouAnn Glover has been an art instructor at Maumee Valley for 30 years. She has taught a variety of art classes and exhibits her art work locally. Lou Ann is a recipient of the Outstanding Art Teacher from N.W. Ohio Art Education Association.
Week 5 Afternoon Classes: 12:30-3:30pm

  • Advanced Chess - Grades 1-8

    The Advanced Chess class is for students who have completed the Beginning Chess class at SummerTime or who have experience in previous chess classes. These students should know basic checkmates, developing pieces, and controlling the center. The goal of this class is to take your game to the next level, to dig deeper into strategies, analytical thinking, logic, and concentration. Students will continue to master fundamentals, have time to practice with other classmates, and will be provided with the details on what to study to improve further.
     
    Fee: $149
    Instructor: Toledo resident Jonathan Doran is a former Ohio High School State Champion who specializes in opening and endgame theory and currently trains the St. John's Jesuit High School team. Known for being among the top players and instructors in the area, Jonathan is greatly involved in scholastic chess. Currently a member of the Ohio Scholastic Chess Association Board of Directors, President of the Greater Toledo Area High School Chess League, and a USCF Senior Tournament Director with experience running many local and state chess events, he has given lessons for ten years to players of all ages and skill levels. He also assists strong players with tournament preparation, including one previously who has multiple national scholastic titles to his name. He is enthusiastic about working with students who have a desire to learn and develop their skills.
  • Board Game Design - Grades 5-8

    Students will learn about the principals of board game design through playing and analyzing a variety of board games. Groups will work cooperatively to design a playable game and tweak their design through play-testing with other groups. Finished games will be donated to the library at MVCDS.

  • Chess: beyond the Basics - Grades 1-8

    This class is for those who have completed the Starting Out Chess Class or other chess courses.  Students will learn strategies for the advanced player.

  • Fiber Arts Camp - Grades 3-8

    Come and have fun creating with fabric, yarn, reed, handmade paper, and wool. Learn how to sew simple stitches, weave, needle felt, make paper, and wet felt. Make items to wear such as a hat, belt, ball, and pouch. Create sculptures, vessels, and stuffed creatures using a variety of soft and interesting materials and fabrics.

  • Intro To Recording - Grades 7-12

    This will be an introduction to recording in general.

    Instructor: Lucas Madrazo has recorded and played all over the country.
  • Lego STEAM - Grades 1-2

    We will use and build with Legos to perform fun experiments, such as balloon powered Lego car races, fun science Lego games, and much more!

    This class is designed for younger students and will teach basic musical concepts such as rhythm, dynamics and note recognition through a variety of music-based games and fun activities. Students will use their voices, move their bodies and stretch their creativity in this fun-filled camp for grades 1-4!

  • Science Adventures With The Magic School Bus - Grades 1-4

    Join Elaine Sneider alias "Ms. Frizzle" as we explore many science wonders. Each day we will focus on a different Magic School Bus episode. We will do science experiments, play games, eat related snacks, make crafts and enjoy more science fun. New Subjects this year: Forces, Recycling, Electricity, and Eggs.

    Students will hear and read and re-tell stories and create their own spoken and written stories as their level of acquisition allows.

  • The Time Travelers - Grades 1-4

    Climb aboard a “Time Machine” as we “travel” through time. Each day we will travel to a different time period and enjoy games, crafts, science experiments, snacks, and other fun experiences, such as panning for gold, and digging for fossils.

  • This is your year! Study Stategies for the iGeneration - Grades 7-9

    This course will focus on fundamental skills such as time management, organizational, note-taking/flashcard techniques, memorization, effective reading skills, and test - taking strategies. Walk away with an array of academic skills that can be used throughout the year.

    Instructor: Tara Morrin has been in the field of student support for ten years. She is entering her seventh year as the student support specialist at Maumee Valley, where she works with students in grades 7 through 12 on developing their study habits and balancing their work load.
  • Upcycled Crafts - Grades 5-8

     Don't throw that out! That's what you'll be saying all the time after taking this class. You will learn how to recycle and repurpose everyday items. Some of our projects will include an upcycled windchime, plastic bottle planters, puzzle piece jewelry, and several things to do with old t-shirts. After learning to think outside the box and create fun new items, you can think up your own creative ways to make handmade repurposed items for yourself or to give as gifts.
     
    Fee: $149
    Materials: Please bring 1 or 2 old t-shirts for crafts, clothes that you don't mind getting painted on or dirty.
    Instructor: Rachel Spiegel is a crafting maniac and loves thrift store shopping and repurposing. She has been the School Counselor at MFVCDS for four years, and is excited to now also be helping with SummerTime. When not at MVCDS in the summer, you can find her playing with her own four kids in her backyard.
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel up to one week prior to the first day of a class or camp and will receive a full refund minus the 25% non-refundable deposit. Cancellation within one week before the first day of a class or camp may result in no refund due to teachers' preparations based on expected enrollment. All classes and camps are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment. If this should occur, you will be notified and a full refund given.

Before & After Camp Care Available

Adults with experience in before and after school care programs care for and supervise the children. The program offers creative and fun activities, such as games, arts, and crafts.

Morning Before Camp Care 7:30am - 9:00am
Afternoon After Camp Care 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Fees listed below are for one week of camp (Mon-Fri) at the class times specified.

Full-day (Grades 1-8)

$259: Includes Before Camp Care, choice of Morning Class, Lunch Supervision, choice of Afternoon Class, and After Camp Care.

Half-day Options (Grades 1-8)

Hobbit Camp: 
Ages 2 and a half (by Sept.) through 3 years old; and ages 4 to 5 years.

Full-day
$239: Includes Before Camp Care, Morning Hobbit Camp, Lunch Supervision, Afternoon Hobbit Camp, and After Camp Care.

Half-day Options
$139: Morning session (includes Before Camp Care)
or
$120: Afternoon session (includes After Camp Care)

Lunch Supervision: Preschool - Grade 8 (12:00-12:30pm)
$50: The lunch supervision includes time to eat lunch brought from home with a beverage (refrigeration is provided) and time for socializing and free time on the playground. Lunch Supervision is included in the Full-Day Fee, so there is no Lunch Supervision fee for students staying for a full day.

High School Classes (Grades 9-12)
Classes are individually priced.

Registration Fees
All registration fees are due in full before the first day of class or your spot is not guaranteed. This includes your application and the total cost of each program. No classes will be prorated.

Payment is accepted by check, MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Discover, or a money order made payable to Maumee Valley Country Day School. Cash will also be accepted in the Lower School office.

Confirmation
A confirmation notice is sent upon receipt of a completed application and payment. Your confirmation will contain information regarding check-in procedures.
