Physical Education

The mission of the Physical Education department is to inspire and cultivate optimal learning opportunities to enable our students to be competent and confident in pursuing a healthy, life-long physically active lifestyle. This will be accomplished in a positive environment that encourages good character and strong leadership qualities.

  • Middle School Physical Education (4-6)

The goal of the Middle School physical education program is for each student to gain the skills necessary to live a healthy and physically active lifestyle while being responsible for themselves and respectful of others. The program emphasis is on participation and values of physical fitness and cooperation. Physical education in grades 4-6 continues to develop motor and movement-concept skills introduced in the lower grades. Skills that were once practiced individually are now applied in small- and large-group gameplay through building game strategies and tactics appropriate to each advancing grade level. The incorporation of gameplay allows students to develop basic knowledge of sport-specific rules and provides an opportunity for students to work cooperatively with peers in partner and group settings and practice good sportsmanship. Students continuously build on their skill development and reflect on personal fitness testing and personal, achievable goals throughout each year. Students engage in a variety of sports and activities such as soccer, tennis, flag football, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, archery, team games, and many others.
  • Physical Education 7

Lifelong fitness is a goal of our Middle School physical education program. The program provides each student with a variety of skills, activities, game experiences, and health-related fitness. All students learn movement patterns, understand basic tactics, improve specific sport techniques, and understand the principles of training. Students learn the value of physical activity for fitness and opportunities for social interaction. The program emphasizes sportsmanship, leadership, and collaboration and focuses on students enjoying being active.
