Congratulations to 11 MV musicians for performing recently in regional events sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA).
This weekend, all eight students received Superior ratings — the highest possible — for their performances at the annual OMEA District One Solo & Ensemble event, which took place at Lake High School.
Performing as soloists were violinists Sydney Abercrombie ’25, Masho Leluashvili ’28, and Corinne Moore ’26.
Performing in small ensembles were the duo of violinist Mohammad Tal ’25 and cellist Omar Tal ’27; the trio of violinists Jacob Hennon ’25 and Erik Broman ’26 and violist Sofia Avram ’26; and the quartest of Sydney, Corinne, Sofia, and Omar.
Last month, five musicians performed beautifully at the OMEA District One Honors Orchestras and Band event, which took place at Stranahan Theater & Great Hall.
- High School Honors Orchestra: Sydney and Corinne
- High School Honors Band: Flutist Ella Hu ’27
- Middle School Honors Orchestra: Cellist Zeke Freeman ’30 (chosen to be the associate principal cellist) and violist Lucas Mabbitt ’30
To participate in the Orchestras and Band event, students had to submit an audition recording and show other signs of commitment to their art form. They participated in rigorous rehearsals the week prior to their performances.
“I am incredibly proud of our talented student musicians for their outstanding performances at the recent OMEA events,” said Cecilia Johnson, the strings instructor at Maumee Valley. “Earning Superior ratings and representing our school at the Honors Orchestras and Band event is a testament to their dedication, passion, and hard work. These achievements wouldn’t be possible without the support of their families and faculty, who played key roles in their preparation.”
Johnson thanked the parent team for attending rehearsals and supporting students leading up to the performances: Gene Abercrombie, Stephanie Moore, Lin Hu, Liuling Liu, Rachel Freeman, and Angie Mabbit.
