Lower School Students will Study Picture Book Art & Artists

The Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books is the world's first and largest collection of original art from children's picture books. The museum is located at The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. www.mazzamuseum.org/. The Mazza School Extension Program is a yearly school program where a school studies three Mazza book artists, integrating their books into the curriculum. Only three Mazza Schools are selected each year.
The entire Lower School will visit the Mazza Museum and at the end of the program, the school committee will select three works of art from a list of “Artworks for Sponsorship” for the purpose of studying these artists and their books. The criterion for artworks will be those artists who are living, with books in print, featuring varied media, styles and appropriate for a variety of age levels.

The MVCDS “Mazza School” committee members are:
Lou Ann Glover, art teacher PK-7th grade, Phyllis Quick, Librarian, Nancy Fish, Student Support, Mark Baker, Head of Lower School

The school committee will research the three book artists and plan school activities highlighting those book artists.
The students will vote and the results kept secret until the final assembly.
The committee is responsible for organizing the program for the final school assembly.
At the final assembly, the Education Coordinator will unveil the selected artwork.
The students will parade past the winning art with the school plaque on it.
The new Mazza School is put on the Mazza School Plaque in the Galleria.
The selected artwork will be displayed in the museum with a plaque “Gift from the students and teachers from Maumee Valley Country Day School.”
