A Maumee Valley teacher is a guide who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who utilizes a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners. All learners will feel safe, respected and confident in the environment created by this candidate.
Teach a full load of high school level courses, in the mathematics and science departments
Manage a student load of between 60 and 80 students
Nurture and support an advisee group of between 8 and 12 students
Participate in the life of the school by attending athletic, arts, fundraising, and other school events
Chaperone school functions, such as dances and school trips as needed
Participate on committees and task forces as needed
Mentor student clubs and activities as needed
Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues
Skills and Competencies:
Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with teenagers
Ability to teach a range of high school mathematics classes from 9th grade to Advanced Placement
Ability to teach a range of high school science physical science classes
Flexible and adaptable
Familiarity with experiential education
Ability to differentiate instruction
Experience developing innovative curriculum with a backward design framework, such as Understanding by Design
Ability to collaborate within and between departments to emphasize interdisciplinary learning
Able to maximize advantages of a technology rich teaching environment
Credentials: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
