Millennium Theatre returns to normalcy as MV presents 'Beauty and the Beast' on April 7

Show dates and times:
Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m.

The tale may be old as time, but Maumee Valley Country Day School is putting a fresh spin on "Beauty and the Beast" with more than 50 students involved as cast, musicians, production, and design work for costumes, the set and for props.

You're invited to join the MV Fine Arts Department for the spring musical that features songs from the 1991 Disney animated film and new songs written for the Broadway production.

The cast spans three divisions, our orchestra highlights student musicians, and more than 50 middle and upper school students are involved in the show. Earlier this year, MV Director of Theatre Brian Bozanich taught an Upper School intensive where 20 students focused on designing costumes for the show.

Opening night is at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 and the show runs through Sunday, April 10. You can click here to purchase your ticket

This will be an excellent way to return to a sense of community at MV, it is the first full musical show since the pandemic, and the students cannot wait to share their hard work.

"I love to have people here. The whole reason I do the job that I do is that I like telling stories to large groups," Bozanich said. "This is a good show for that because it's big and fun for families. In my work as a 'coach' for this show, I put everybody on the 'field' in their strongest positions."

Characters who become enchanted objects as part of the curse will be played by puppets.

The show also features such a large and dynamic set, the front row of seats inside the Millennium Theatre had to be removed in order to expand the stage.

"Most everybody knows the story and knows the music," Bozanich said. "We're going to do it in our own unique way."

Students and staff will be putting in a week of 12-14 hour days leading up to Opening Night, Bozanich said.

"These kids are awesome and will do a great job," he said.

This also will be the first show in nearly two years that is not live-streamed because we're able to have a full audience in the theatre.
