Winter Concert Dec. 13 features string, vocal ensembles

The Maumee Valley community is invited to the school’s annual Winter Concert featuring performances by the Upper School Chorus, String Chamber Ensemble, and 7th & 8th Grade String Ensemble.
The event is Tuesday, Dec. 13, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Millennium Theatre.

The Upper School Chorus will perform “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman” and holiday favorites such as “Carol of the Bells” and “Sleigh Ride” among others.

The string ensembles will perform selections under the banner of “Music Speaks through and to Adversity.” Selections represent the port of Odessa, the November gales on the Great Lakes, mustangs of the American west, the 10th anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy, political tension via the music of Shostakovich, seeking peace via the music of American composer Gwyneth Walker, and a surprise champion of “solutions.”

In addition to the students’ performance, they have created accompanying posters that they will present in the newly renovated lobby at a reception following the event. The posters reflect on how current events illustrate the relevance of music and the arts, often at the center of recognizing and facing challenges.

Thank you to our wonderful music instructors for guiding our students and organizing the program: Charles Brown and Cecilia Johnson.
