Creative play, innovative methods of teaching, and personalized learning approaches are what I love about the ELC at Maumee Valley. The teachers and staff provide a welcoming environment to learn and grow, and I know my child can prosper and learn with enthusiasm while developing a love of education from an early age.

The Early Learning Center at Maumee Valley

Children are born with an innate drive to learn, and we set out to provide an environment that promotes this philosophy through play, that values process over product, and that provides adults with whom they develop trusting, caring relationships.

The Early Learning Center engages, nurtures, and supports young children in their pursuit of knowledge and meaning through inquiry, social-emotional development, child-centered curriculum, and creative expression. This is where our students begin their journey toward becoming competent, compassionate, collaborative, and creative global citizens.

The Maumee Valley ELC places children based on their development, and not strictly by age, allowing for classroom groupings that best meet each child's needs. Our team of expert educators focus on “whole child development”, ensuring that each student’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical needs are being met, while paying careful attention to the many unique communication and learning styles of young children.

Personal, Experiential, & Global

The interests of the children drive our dynamic program. Our 75 acre campus is the perfect classroom, providing both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities. Our students learn by doing, and our team of highly qualified Early Childhood educators create hands-on learning experiences while carefully documenting the progress of each child. The facility encourages hands-on opportunities, and the program is thoughtfully designed toward active, integrated, and robust learning experiences throughout the school day. Emphasis is placed on respecting the environment and all living things, and the students learn to respect diversity of cultures, customs, families, and backgrounds. A Maumee Valley education is personal, experiential, and global, and this begins with our youngest students.

At Maumee Valley you will find children excavating for “dinosaur” bones, negotiating with peers for a turn with the doctor coat in the imaginary play area, graphing who prefers apples and who prefers bananas, researching shrubs and plantings for our outdoor garden, and creating an airport complete with signs, a ticket counter, and seating.

The Educational Journey Begins

The Maumee Valley Early Learning Center (ELC) engages, nurtures, and supports young children in their pursuit of knowledge and meaning. The children’s play and daily explorations guide and shape the curriculum, making each year and each classroom a unique, dynamic, and ever-changing learning environment. Children are recognized as individuals, and the relationships between parents, students, and educators create a warm and safe environment for early learning. The ELC is the beginning of a child’s Maumee Valley journey; a perfect foundation for becoming competent, compassionate, collaborative, and creative global citizens.

Children entering Maumee Valley’s Early Learning Center classrooms begin their educational journey immediately. Students quickly and successfully adjust to the concepts of school and learning in this nurturing environment. The classrooms are set up with a variety of learning centers that encourage and stimulate curiosity and interest. These centers contain provocations that reinforce fundamental language, number, and motor skills while encouraging creativity, problem solving, independent learning, and the development of sound work habits.

The Maumee Valley ELC places children based on their development, and not strictly by age, allowing for classroom groupings that best meet each child's needs. Our teams of expert educators have a deep understanding of child development, and they use this knowledge to focus on the “whole child.” We ensure that each student’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical needs are being met, while paying careful attention to the many unique communication and learning styles of young children. Our 8:1 student-teacher ratio in the ELC allows teachers to provide the individualized attention our students deserve.

The Maumee Valley Country Day School Early Learning Center offers full- and half-day programs in Preschool and a full day program in Prekindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten. Children must be 30 months (two and a half years) old by the start of the school year to enroll in the Early Learning Center program. Children are not required to be toilet-trained to enroll in Preschool but it is expected for the other ELC programs.
