Getting Involved In Middle School

Middle School is an ideal time for students to explore and expand upon their individual interests. We recognize that our student body is a melting pot of backgrounds, strengths, and creative abilities. Because of this, we aim to help students hone their passions and serve as facilitators for their imaginations.

The majority of our clubs are student-proposed, so they serve as an accurate reflection of our Middle Schoolers. If a student has a particular interest or skill that isn't served by a current club, they can work with an advisor to create one. Depending on the nature of the club, students and teachers meet during lunch, free time, or after school.

A few of our clubs are staples to the Middle School; however, due to the flucuating nature of student interest and leadership, clubs may not be the same from year to year. Some of our short-term clubs have included screenwriting, zombie apocalypse, mythology, and flag football.

  • Power of the Pen

Power of the Pen (POP) is a creative writing competition exclusive to the state of Ohio. Leading up to the tournament, students in this club meet for one-hour blocks (typically after school) with their advisor and write short stories in response to a given prompt. The challenge is to write creatively and effectively under a time limit. Tournaments are held at the district, regional, and state-wide level. A lot of our POP students make it to regional and states and return home decorated with awards and trophies. For more information on POP, click here.

Power of the Pen meets Wednesday or Thursday at Lunch. Do you love writing stories? Do you have a naturally competitive spirit? Come join our Power of the Pen writing team to compete with other Middle School storytellers from across the state! Win medals and trophies while forming lasting friendships! Tournaments are will be in January, March and May.

  • Young Writers Guild

Young Writers Guild meets Tuesdays at lunch. Come celebrate writing with the Young Writers Guild! In this club, we plan fun events, like poetry slams and the National Day of Writing, to help get our entire MV community excited about writing! Poetry ninjas and storytellers unite!
