Students Help Clean Swan Creek

Middle School teacher Mrs. Slye and her students have volunteered 3 hours of one Saturday each year for the past 4 years in order to keep Swan Creek clean and free of debris. One fifth grader, 12 seventh graders,1 eighth grader and three adults participated in this year's 2017 trash removal from the MVCDS section of Swan Creek on the morning of Saturday, September 23rd.
After volunteers removed trash, they recorded what they found on data cards. The data was later submitted to the International Coastal Cleanup Research. After a couple hours of picking up all types of imaginable trash, volunteers gathered for an Appreciation Picnic where they were treated to a free hot lunch, thanked with a Clean Your Streams t-shirt, and provided with cleanup results, door prizes, challenge awards, education about watersheds, and much more.

The Clean Your Streams event is part of a larger Northwest Ohio clean-up organized by Partners for Clean Streams located in Perrysburg, Ohio. The 21st Annual Clean Your Streams Day event happens in all of the streams, rivers, and watersheds in Northwest Ohio. It is the single largest stream cleanup in Ohio! The 17 MV participants were part of the 910 volunteers at 69 sites who generously gave their time. Volunteers cleaned over 25 miles of river and stream banks. In total, the 21st Annual Clean Your Streams event collected 23,789 pounds of trash and debris!
