Maumee Valley Country Day students learn a new skill set while building playhouse for a local family

Meaningful community service is crucial to MVCDS’ mission. The middle school service-learning program teaches civic responsibility, the value of public service, and building relationships within their community.
More than 70 students at Maumee Valley Country Day School (MVCDS) will present a playhouse to a local family as part of a service project for middle school students in partnership with Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.

For three days in November and December of 2021, students designed, assembled, and decorated the playhouse with the children’s interests in mind.

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Playhouse Project allows organizations and individuals the opportunity to build a playhouse for a local family in need — providing children with a safe place to play and imagine what home means to them. Funds raised go toward building new affordable houses in Lucas County.

There will be a presentation of the playhouse with Habitat for Humanity and students at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
