Helping our students shine

A recent series of events between a Lower School student, a teacher, and the child's basketball team showcases Maumee Valley Country Day School's mission.

An MV student wanted to play basketball for the Hawks, but sometimes felt discouraged because he lacked confidence and believed he wasn't good at the game.

But the ever-wise Health and Physical Education Teacher Terri Herrmann noticed and pulled the student aside a few weeks ago. She privately asked him if he would like to regularly work on basketball with her for a few minutes after specials.

"He was enthused, he needed the privacy and Mrs. Herrmann's kindness," the boy's mother said.

Maumee Valley Country Day School cultivates an inclusive community of intellectual excellence where learners creatively explore their passions and boldly inspire positive change in the world.

On Monday, everything came together on the court and he scored a lay-up that his whole team worked to set up.

"There was much hooting and applause from his team and when he came off the court, the team gave him a standing ovation," the child's mom said. "Terri Herrman, [the coach] and that whole team have made such a big difference for our boy."
