Student artists honored at juried Focus Art Show

Maumee Valley students were highly represented in this year’s juried Focus Art Show celebrating work from regional art students. Four earned some of the top prizes awarded by judges. Their efforts were recognized Thursday at the show’s opening ceremony.
Maumee Valley students were highly represented in this year’s juried Focus Art Show celebrating work from regional art students. Four earned some of the top prizes awarded by judges. Their efforts were recognized Thursday at the show’s opening ceremony. MV students receiving top awards were:
  • Alexander Ni '24: His “Baroque Still-Life” painting received the Toledo Museum of Art Scholarship Award.
  • Ethan Chen '25: His “Rise and Shine” drawing received the American Frame Award.
  • Paige Yustick '23: Her “Hearing” mixed media submission received the Mixed Media Jurors Award as well as the Maumee Valley Head of School Award. (Another piece by Paige – a drawing titled “Move the Ice” – was accepted in the exhibition.)
  • Sam Thomas '23: His “War Elephant” sculpture received the Sculpture Jurors Award. (Another piece by Sam - a sculpture titled “Senseless Software” - was accepted in the exhibition.)
Other MV students (now alumni) selected for the show are:
  • Iris Qian '22 for a drawing titled “Spread”
  • Lily Shen '22 for a drawing titled “Childhood Toys”
The 51st annual event this year celebrates the amazing talents of student artists (and their supportive art teachers!) from 21 high schools in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. It is open through Sept. 17 at the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
