4 seniors nominated as U.S. Presidential Scholars

Congratulations to four seniors for being named candidates in the 2023 United States Presidential Scholars Program.
The students are Sharon Deng, Calvin McCullumsmith, Elliott Zajac, and Oliver Zajac. Only 10 students from schools in Lucas County were chosen, and four came from Maumee Valley Country Day School!

Only one-tenth of 1 percent of all high school students are asked to apply. Students are chosen based upon ACT scores or nominations by a top state education official or organizations affiliated with the Presidential Scholars Program.

A national committee evaluates applicants on academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and an analysis of an essay. Approximately 650 candidates are named semifinalists. In June, 161 students will be named U.S. Presidential Scholars and receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion.

Congratulations Sharon, Calvin, Elliott, and Oliver!
