Crystal Borchert - Lower School and Middle School Visual Art
Crystal Borchert is joining the Lower and Middle School as the new art teacher. She has a master's degree in education from the University of Toledo and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Bowling Green State University. Most recently, she was an art teacher at E.A. Powell Elementary School in North Baltimore Local Schools. She is no stranger to Maumee Valley: For the past 13 years, she has been an art instructor at MV's SummerTime Camp and served as a K-6 building substitute from 2012-2013. 

Gracie Chamberlain - Upper School Math
A graduate from Bowling Green State University, Gracie Chamberlain joins the Upper School faculty with plenty of experience working with high school-aged students. Ms. Chamberlain emphasizes learning through discovery in her lessons. Outside of the classroom, she has a love for personal finance, fostering dogs, and playing pickleball.

Martha Chandran-Dickerson - Upper School English
Martha Chandran-Dickerson joins the Upper School with exciting teaching philosophies that closely align with the Maumee Valley mission and vision. A graduate of Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, with a double major in communications and English, Mrs. Chandran-Dickerson brings a global perspective to our teaching faculty. In addition to a master’s degree in literary and textual criticism from BGSU, Mrs. Chandran-Dickerson brings a diverse skill set as a high school and collegiate instructor, as well as extensive experience as a writer, editor, and consultant. Inviting students to seize initiative, encouraging students to become critical thinkers, and offering students the opportunity to grasp that learning is indefinite, dynamic, and dimensional are components of being an effective educator that Mrs. Chandran-Dickerson uses to decenter her role as an educator. 

Robert Daine - Upper School Math
In the classroom, Robert Daine is an expert in mathematics and physics. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Daine is passionate about helping young adults find their future, from instilling a love for calculus and physics in students, tutoring students who need help after school, to sharing his interests with his students by leading clubs in areas like robotics, anime, or esports. Mr. Daine was raised in England, where he eventually earned his first master’s degree in physics before coming to Toledo, where he earned his second master’s degree.

Trent Hayes - Director of College Counseling
Maumee Valley has hired Trent Hayes as its new Director of College Counseling. Mr. Hayes has many years of experience in institutional leadership and operations, enrollment management, student advising, strategic planning, and leadership training and development. He previously was vice director of enrollment management at Defiance College. He also has served as dean of enrollment management at Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science, and in other roles within admissions and enrollment management offices in higher education. “We are excited to have Trent join the Upper School team and put his knowledge and experience to work supporting our students and families,” said Stephanie Harman, head of the Upper School.

Christopher McNulty - Upper School Science
Christopher McNulty is an experienced science teacher who is finishing his doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction at Indiana State University. Mr. McNulty is passionate about education and excited for the opportunity to teach at an independent school where innovative teaching methods can be explored. He is interested in the intersection between the arts and science, and how art can be used to positively affect the academic performance, motivation, self-efficacy, and creativity of science students.

Erin McNulty - Upper School English
Erin McNulty joins the Upper School from Purdue University where she is finishing her doctoral dissertation. Mrs. McNulty has taught a wide variety of English literature and rhetoric classes, including literature for children, science fiction and fantasy, and the rhetoric of data science. She is dedicated to inclusivity and creating discourse that allows students to discuss complex issues, and she values encouraging communication and analytical skills.

Brandi Baker Parcell - Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events
Brandi Baker Parcell is joining MV's Office of Advancement as the director of alumni relations and special events. She has 16 years of experience in teaching, leadership, fundraising, program development, and community service locally and abroad. Most recently, she was the development director of the American Heart Association's Toledo office. Previously, she worked 16 years at West Side Montessori as both a teacher and later as director. She has a master's degree in higher education and a bachelor's degree in education, both from the University of Toledo. 

 

Sarah Tilton - 4th Grade Language Arts
Sarah Tilton is joining us as the 4th grade language arts teacher. She currently is a bilingual elementary teacher for Denver Public Schools, where she has fostered the development of academic Spanish and English through content instruction and the strategic use of those languages for all content areas. Ms. Tilton previously worked at Maumee Valley in 2011 as an English as a Second Language teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations (Spanish minor) from Ohio University, and two master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University: a master of arts in English and a masters of education in curriculum and teaching.
