Model UN Students Travel to Kalamazoo

Last week, the Maumee Valley Model UN Team traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to compete in the 25th Annual Mid-American Model United Nations (MAMUN). In total, 27 students, including captains Emma Baker ‘15 & Sachin Hejeebu ’15, and Upper School advisor Dan Mumford made the trip. The team was eager to compete and the team represented Maumee Valley well.
The students spent the week discussing various topics such as the elimination of unilateral extraterritorial coercive economic measures as a means of political and economic compulsion, the situation in the Afghanistan, and the advancement of women. After spending two days in individual committees vigorously writing resolutions while following parliamentary procedure, the team concluded the conference with simulations of the General Assembly and Economic-Social (ECOSOC) Plenary. With over 500 delegates from 20 schools around the area, many of whom have Model UN as an official class, the Maumee Valley students represented well and had a great time at the competition.

The ECOSOC delegation representing Bangladesh, worked very hard during their plenary, and received Second Honors for their hard work as a team.
