Congratulations to three MV students for having their artwork selected for display during the Ninth Congressional District Invitational High School Exhibition. Layah Perry ’25 was named the exhibit runner-up for her digital design, “Red Room of Jane Eyre.” It will be displayed for a year in the office of Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.

Other students honored were Anderson Jachimiak ’25 for a drawing titled “Cars on Mat” and Addy Jaffe ’26 for a mixed media work titled “Threads of Autonomy.” The works are displayed through March 30 in the Robert C. and Susan Savage Community Gallery at The Toledo Museum of Art.
The awards ceremony is on Sunday, March 9, in the museum’s Little Theatre. A reception from 2-4 p.m. precedes the awards ceremony. The awards honor artistic excellence demonstrated by area high school students. High Schools and student artists in Erie, Ottawa, Lucas, Fulton, Williams, Defiance, Sandusky, and parts of Wood Counties are invited to participate.
Since 1983, Congresswoman Kaptur has partnered with the Arts Commission to support the arts in Ohio. High school art educators each year are invited to submit student artwork to this competitive exhibition. Hundreds of students’ artwork has been seen and celebrated by the community. Young artists have won thousands of dollars in awards because of the generous support of this show.
The competition is part of “Artistic Discovery,” a nationwide activity initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage young people’s artistic creativity. Works exhibited include paintings, drawings, collages, prints (lithograph, silkscreen, monotype, woodcut, and intaglio methods), mixed media, photography, and computer-generated art. The first-place entry of the competition has their artwork placed on exhibition in Washington, D.C. for one year.
