The boys’ varsity soccer team had one of its most remarkable seasons ever this fall, winning not only the conference title but earning the top awards for player and coach of the year.
Leading the way was Vukasin “Kashi” Tomic ’24. Not only did he help lead the Hawks to an undefeated season in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference (and the team’s first title since 2004) as well as a Sectional title, but he also was named TAAC Player of the Year. His other honors include:
- Named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Great Lakes Region Team, one of only three athletes chosen from our region from any conference.
- Scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 double-overtime victory against Ottawa Hills in the District semifinals.
- Named 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-State in Division III.
For his leadership in preparing and guiding Kashi and the other Hawks, MV’s Chad Lillich was named “Coach of the Year.”
Another senior with a remarkable season was Asa Karns. He became the school’s all-time leader in goals (76) and assists (53). Asa also was named 1st Team All-TAAC and 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All- State in Division III. In January, he signed an intent letter to play soccer at the University of Findlay, a Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Several other Hawks received All-TAAC honors. Named to the 1st Team were Aiden Skinner ’24, Gabe Skinner ’26, and Demetre Wheeler ’25. Named to the 2nd Team were Seba Celli ’27, Ehsan Darr ’24, Nour Eltahawy ’24, and Rami Ridi ’24.
