Facilities
Where champions are made
Sports and physical education are as much a part of the Maumee Valley culture as academics. Our teams and athletes have won hundreds of awards, and their abilities are cultivated not only through perseverance and great coaching, but a rich array of athletic facilities.
Take a look at the Maumee Valley sports landscape:
Tennis courts
The boys’ and girls’ varsity tennis teams, as well as some physical education courses, play on the school’s five clay courts. Bleachers allow for fan viewing.
Johnson-Bayer Physical Education Complex
In 1997, Maumee Valley opened the “Johnson Bayer Physical Education Complex.” The new space added sports offices, a weight training room, and an additional full-size gymnasium and connected them to the existing Upper School Varsity Gym. The JB gym features a full-size basketball court and bleacher seating. It also is used by Middle and Upper School physical education courses, local youth leagues, and summer camps, and is one of the most used athletic facilities on campus. The weight room and main common spaces of the complex were completely remodeled in the summer of 2023.
Koltay Soccer Field/Track (main stadium)
Home to all school track and field events as well as annual field days for the Lower School and Middle School. The interior and exterior spaces include a long-jump pit, shot put circle, and high-jump pit.
Soccer stadium
Our all-grass field is home to all soccer events at Maumee Valley. The stadium is served by an electronic scoreboard and seats about 400 people.
Rock-climbing wall
The Lower School gym features a rock-climbing wall to facilitate full-body workouts.
Cross-country course
Maumee Valley annually hosts the Toledo Area Athletic Conference Championships for both boys’ and girls’ cross-country. Recently, portions of the course also have been used by a new K-3 youth sports league created in partnership with other area private schools. The course uses both the flat and open, grassy areas of campus as well as the hills within the wooded areas.
Field hockey/lacrosse field
The girls’ field hockey and lacrosse teams play on an all-grass field served by an electronic scoreboard and bleacher seating.
Varsity Gym
Renovated in 2003, the Varsity Gym is the home court for all basketball teams at Maumee Valley, from grades 3 through 12. It has an electronic scoreboard and bleacher seating on both sides of the court. The gym also features our sports and senior banners, showcasing the accomplishments of past athletes and teams and portraits of seniors participating in fall, winter, and spring sports.
Practice fields
Because of the size of our campus, Maumee Valley maintains numerous practice-field configurations in order to host tournaments for soccer and field hockey.
Ropes challenge course
In 2007, new outdoor adventure course challenges were built throughout the woods on campus. They include both low- and high-ropes course challenges for students. In 2022, Metroparks Toledo declared one of our trees on campus as certified for ropes climbing.
