The Wolfe Gallery at Maumee Valley Country Day School is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition, “Brianna Deterling: In Progression,” a captivating exploration of memory, imagination, and the natural world through the medium of ceramics. The exhibition will run from Dec. 16, 2024, to Feb. 21, 2025, with a special artist reception on Jan. 17, 2025, from 5:30–7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Brianna Deterling is an accomplished visual artist known for her organic, clay-based creations that merge natural forms with the imaginative spirit of childhood. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in northern Wisconsin, Deterling’s work channels a profound connection to the outdoors, layered with a sense of mystery and wonder.
Her art has been showcased both nationally and internationally, with notable exhibitions at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the Amarillo Museum of Art, and the Chihuahua Institute of Culture in Mexico. A holder of a BFA, MA, and MFA in ceramics, Deterling currently teaches at Adrian College in Michigan and Riverland Community College in Minnesota.
Deterling’s evolving body of work explores themes of place, memory, and the tension between the familiar and the unknown, creating pieces that are as thought-provoking as they are visually engaging.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
In Brianna Deterling: In Progression, viewers are invited to embark on a journey through the artist’s creative process. This exhibition weaves together several bodies of work, showcasing a dynamic interplay of familiar textures and forms reimagined with new materials and approaches.
