About 65 percent of Ohio's poll workers are over the age of 61 and at risk of contracting COVID-19. There is a concern that many will choose not to work in the November election because of the pandemic.
Congratulations to Karen Chen '24! Her short story "Keeper of Yourself" was selected for publication in the prestigious online literary journal “The Daphne Review”. Karen's story will appear in their Fall 2020 edition, available in early August.
Congratulations to Caiden Lambert-Lyons, who recently competed in the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Toledo High School Design Competition and won two prizes for design. Many of the competing schools have classes and advanced equipment. Caiden worked on his computer after school, with the advice of local architect Scot Rossi. He won First Place in the BGSU Digital Media Competition and Second Place in the GBA Lighting Design Competition.
Congratulations to Maumee Valley's very talented 8th-grade poets! Their work is currently featured in The Ekphrastic Review. This special showcase highlights exemplary work from a recently completed classroom challenge: The Ultimate Ekphrastic Challenge. Students engaged in daily poetry prompts exploring various poetic techniques and forms in response to works of art, many of which can be found on exhibit at The Toledo Museum of Art.

Their haiku poetry and artwork have been selected for publication in the upcoming issue of Skipping Stones, an international print magazine.
The Indoor track team had the state meet this weekend and performed well. The results are: Patrick Lyell ‘20 State 800m Runner Up, Emily Porter ‘23 800m 14th Place, the 4x4 team got 11th. Megan McNally ‘21 Triple Jump 10th Place, Allison Launder ‘23 Triple Jump 8th Place, Jackson Dias ‘21 400m Relay 11th Place, Kevin Yu 400m Relay 11th Place, and Zach O'Neil 400m Relay 11th Place. The MVCDS Speech Team went to Wooster this past weekend for states! Jonah Musher-Eizenman '21 and Shoshi Lavetter-Keidan '21 got 8th in the state in duo, Jeremy Mahoney '21 got 8th in international extemp, and Norah Li '21 got 2nd in original oratory! Congratulations!
MVCDS did well at Mid-American Model United Nations (MAMUN) in Kalamazoo, MI last Thursday, March 5, Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 2020! Danny, Alyssa, Omar A, Caden, and Stephane all won individual awards, and the Turkey delegation won a collective award. MV also won the best-prepared school award.
Three sixth grade students won at the Maumee Valley Country Day School science fair and then competed on March 7th at the University of Toledo at the Northwest Ohio District 2 Science Day (NWDSD) regional science fair. Congratulations to Kaiden L., Penny W., Schafer H.!

Earlier this week, the Maumee Valley athletic department honored Senior Varsity Basketball player Dezmond Jett for his record-breaking performance. Dez is officially Maumee Valley’s career leader in assists (415) and steals (266) accumulated over his last four years on the court. Thank you, Dez for your contributions to the MV Basketball and for your dedication to your teammates and the program during your high school athletic career. Congratulations, Dez!

MVCDS musicians had a very successful day at the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Contest Saturday, February 8, 2020. Entered in 15 separate events, students came home with 12 top ratings of Superior (I) and 2 ratings of Excellent (II) and 1 rating of Good (III).
These ratings were awarded by five different judges on five separate stages. It was a joy to hear so many excellent performances. Congratulations!
Congratulations to the 6th-8th graders who competed in the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition Saturday, February 1st at the University of Toledo. Maumee Valley's team placed sixth out of 15 teams and had three students place in the top 20 out of 112 participants. Congratulations Joshua W. ’25 - 12th, Karen C. ‘24 - 13th and Allan Z. ‘26 - 19th.
Congratulations to Jonathon Buchanan, a graduating senior at Maumee Valley Country Day School, and son of J. Matthew and Renee Buchanan. He has been named one of more than 4,500 candidates in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2020. Jonathon is the only candidate selected from the Toledo area.
