Freshman Emily Porter's took a 3rd place finish out of 303 runners, and many runners achieved personal best times as well. Congratulations Hawks!
International Student Signs to Play Sport at University
Congratulations to Niladri Aich ‘19 for his commitment to play tennis for Lourdes College next year. Niladri is the first International student from Maumee Valley to sign to play in college since they have been able to compete at the Varsity level last year. Great job, Niladri!
Congratulations to MVCDS basketball players Zeb Jackson & JR Lumsden who were recognized as part of Steve Taylor’s High School Stars of the Week. This program choses four students each week based on their performance both on and off the field, on a stage, in a classroom or on a court. Students are then highlighted in a weekly video, acknowledged in the local Toledo Blade newspaper, a “shout out” on their local sports radio station The Ticket.
Congratulations to our Upper School Winter Track athletes who have worked hard this season. When possible, the team trains outside. However, on many afternoons you will find them in the athletic wing or school hallways working on their strength, endurance, and form. Under the leadership of Tara Morrin and Jack Dias, Winter Track is an adaptable team! Two athletes, Niladri Aich '19 and Patrick Lyell '20, qualified for the state meet. Niladri placed 21st in the triple jump with a jump of 34'1". This is impressive since Niladri only participated in triple jump twice before the state meet and had to practice in the hallway due to weather. Patrick placed 9th in the 800m run, one spot away from making the podium. He was close to a personal record with a time of 2:03.11.
The first weekend in March, 30 members of the MVhawks robotics team and their parents traveled to their new regional hub at Grove City College in Grove City PA to compete against 18 teams in the BEST robotics competition. The theme this year was cleaning pollution from the oceans. The robot made it to the finals for the first time at a regional competition and took third place over some incredibly tough competitors. MVCDS also took the award for the Best team promotional video. Congratulations to the team!
